WHAT IS
PILATES?

You don’t need to know the equipment. You don’t need to be flexible. Start by understanding the method.

Start with the basics

Control. Breath. Close coaching.

01 / The basics

MOVE WITH
ATTENTION.

Pilates is a form of exercise built around controlled movement, breathing and alignment.

It works on strength, balance, flexibility and how you organise your body as you move. The method takes its name from Joseph Pilates, who developed it.

You can practise on a mat or on specialised equipment. A reformer adds a moving platform, springs and straps.

01

Control

Every repetition is deliberate. Momentum is removed, so the muscle does the work.

02

Alignment

Posture first, load second. We build the position before we add resistance.

03

Strength

The reformer’s springs are resistance. Sessions progress like a training plan.

04

Progression

Each week builds on the last, so you can feel and measure the change.

You don’t need to be flexible to start.

Tell us you’re new. We’ll help you find your starting point.

MAT OR
REFORMER?

The same attention to movement. Different ways to create the work.

01 / Mat Pilates

You and the mat.

Your body weight provides the main resistance. Small props can add variety.

You control the movement through your own support and position on the mat.

02 / Reformer Pilates

Springs and a carriage.

The carriage is a moving platform. Springs can provide resistance or assistance, depending on the exercise.

Straps and a footbar offer different connections to the apparatus.

Pilates basics

What is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise method built around controlled movement, breathing and alignment. You can practise it on a mat or on equipment such as a reformer. Sessions work on strength, balance, flexibility and awareness of how you move.

Is Pilates just stretching?

No. A session can include mobility work, but strength and control are central. On a reformer, springs provide resistance or support. You learn to move the carriage deliberately, rather than rely on momentum.

What is the difference between Pilates and yoga?

Both can involve breath, concentration and movement. Yoga includes a wide range of physical and contemplative traditions. Pilates is an exercise system focused on controlled movement, alignment and strength. Khushi brings experience in both practices to her teaching.

What is the difference between mat and reformer Pilates?

Mat Pilates primarily uses your body weight, sometimes with small props. Reformer Pilates uses a moving carriage, springs, straps and a footbar. The springs can offer resistance or assistance. Both formats involve controlled movement; the equipment changes how the work is organised.

Can complete beginners start reformer Pilates?

Yes. You do not need previous Pilates experience to enquire about our beginner sessions. Tell us it is your first time. We will suggest a starting point and confirm an appropriate slot.

Do I need to be flexible to do Pilates?

No. Flexibility is something you can work on through practice. You can start with the range of movement available to you, with your instructor guiding the session.

Is Pilates suitable for men as well as women?

Yes. Our studio welcomes men and women. Beginners, lifters, runners and experienced practitioners can all enquire about classes. Your starting point depends on your experience and goals.

Is Pilates only for weight loss?

Our teaching focuses on strength, posture, mobility and controlled movement. We do not promise a particular weight change or a fixed results timeline. Tell us what you want to work towards when you enquire.

Your first class

What should I wear and bring to my first Pilates class?

Wear comfortable, fitted clothing that lets you move freely, and bring water. Avoid loose, dangling jewellery. Ask the studio about footwear or grip-sock requirements when your slot is confirmed.

What happens in my first reformer Pilates session?

Tell your instructor about your experience, goals and any injuries. Your instructor introduces the equipment and guides the session. There is no need to know the machine names or exercises before you arrive.

How often should I attend Pilates classes?

The right frequency depends on your goals, experience, other training and available time. Message us to discuss a starting point. We do not prescribe one timetable for every person.

Can I attend if I have an injury or ongoing pain?

Tell us before booking. If you have an injury, ongoing symptoms or a health condition, ask a healthcare professional about exercise suitability. We can then discuss whether the available sessions are appropriate. Pilates classes are not a substitute for medical care.
